Swimmers to swim the length of Lake Travis (63.7 miles) for the first time
GREAT TRAVIS TREK
Saturday May 23 - Sunday, May 24, 2009

The Great Travis Trek is the first Dam-to-Dam swim of any sort in Lake Travis.  It is a six-person relay open water swim the length of Lake Travis, approximately 63.7 miles, as the river meanders.  Each swimmer will swim one hour legs repeating the rotation until the swim is completed.

Austinites Dr. Keith Bell, Robert Alford, Lynne Smith and Chuck Wiley will be joined by fellow Texan, Chris Derks, and New Yorker, Dave Barra, in making this trek for the challenge and for the fun of it, but more importantly to promote open water swimming, clean water, and to save and enhance lives through Swimability.

Swimability raises money for a scholarship fund which helps to pay for swimming lessons for underprivileged kids.

You may see the swim up close and personal by following us online (see trek updates) or we invite you to kayak or canoe near the swimmers anywhere along the journey through Lake Travis to cheer the swimmers on and to shelter them from boats.
